Courtney Young

The Bowling Green R-1 Board of Education has approved the hiring of Courtney Young  as the new district Director of Curriculum, beginning July 1.

Young has been the High School Principal at Grand Center Arts Academy for the last few years where she also supervises the Math and ELA departments, builds the master schedule, oversees curriculum pilot programs and coordinates the district professional development programs.  Before her current role, she served for four years as the district Instructional Coach, where she mentored teachers to improve instructional practices, served as the test coordinator and established and led academic data teams to analyze and diagnose instructional needs and strategies for improvement.  Before serving in her last two leadership roles, Courtney served for five years as an algebra and geometry teacher at the high school level.

In 2021, Young was awarded the "Most Inspirational" staff member in her school, and in 2019 was awarded the school and district "Professional of the Year" awards.  In her first year of teaching as a beginning teacher, she was awarded the "Outstanding Beginning Teacher" by the Missouri Association of Colleges for Teacher Education.  She entered the education field after serving in the business field after college.  Courtney earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Truman State University, a Master of Arts in Teaching from Lindenwood University and her Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Saint Louis University.

Courtney will be instrumental in the implementation of our Curriculum Management Plan and efforts for continuous improvement in student performance and teacher support.

Courtney lives in St. Louis with her husband and young son, and plans to relocate before beginning her role for next school year.  She looks forward to begin her work supporting our students and teachers and getting involved in the Bowling Green community.

The last person to serve as a curriculum leader in BGR-1 was Denise Jones when the position was cut in 2008.
