We have gotten off to a fast start for the New Year here at Bowling Green Middle School. Everyone had a wonderful vacation and has come back re-energized and refocused for the remainder of the school year. We have several activities on our calendar coming up that we would like to make sure everyone is aware of:
The Modern American Dance Company will be coming in February to work with our 6th grade students during our PE classes for the “Books In Motion” program. The students have been working on a cross curricular unit based on the book “The Inventions of Hugo Cabaret”. The Dance Company will be coming in from February 16th through March 2nd to help the students create movement compositions based on the selected reading. They will have 2 performances on March 2nd, one at 1:30 p.m. and one at 6:30 p.m.
Science Fair will also be held on March 2nd in the HS auditorium. Students will be competing in three categories consisting of Life Science, Physical Science, and Earth Science. Parents are welcome to view the Science Exhibit from 12:30-2:30 p.m. The Awards Ceremony will begin at 2:30 p.m. County Science Fair will be held on the following Tuesday, March 9th at St. Clement.
Our Select Choir group has applied and been accepted to participate in Fine Arts Education Day at the Missouri State Capitol. The students will be performing in the Capital Rotunda, as well as watch other schools perform musical pieces, theatrical productions, dance and art shows. Students also will have the opportunity to meet their state senators and representatives and share how the arts have made a difference in their education or life. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students and we are looking forward to the experience.
We have 3 teachers that have volunteered to participate in the Polar Bear Plunge on January 30th on the riverfront as part of a fundraiser student council is conducting to benefit Special Olympics. Goals at each grade level have been set to send Mrs. Turner, Mrs. Allensworth, and Mr. Leonard in for a plunge. We truly appreciate their willingness to represent the Middle School for such a great cause!
Credit Recovery for those students with first semester F’s has begun. We are working in three hour sessions and multiple dates have been provided to those students for the opportunity to remediate any first semester grades. We are utilizing the Anywhere Learning System and any incomplete, Hot Sheet assignments to help assist those students in raising their grade to a passing one.
We will be holding a second round of Student-Led Conferences on February 25th, beginning after school until 6:00 p.m. We welcome all parents and guardians to attend and touch base with your children’s teachers, so that we may continue to work together to assure your child’s success.
