Bowling Green R-1 Parents and Staff,

In an effort to keep you informed, I am writing to let you know of a situation that happened this afternoon.

At about 4 p.m., a parent’s car caught on fire just as they came to a parking position in the lot to pick up a student from the YMCA program.  The driver of the car, noticed smoke and flames beginning to develop within her car and got out.  A person who was working in the glass hallway immediately noticed and called 911 right about the time myself and other central office staff heard a noise.  Central office staff also called 911 while administrators secured a perimeter until the fire department arrived.  Once the fire department arrived, they were able to put out the fire pretty quickly, but the car right next to the burning car was also damaged in the right front quarter panel.  Thankfully, other cars in the row did not catch fire, and no one was hurt.

I want to thank our quick thinking staff members and our emergency personnel for being so responsive.  As a result, no one was hurt, and further damage wasn’t sustained.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 573 324-5441

I appreciate your support for the students and staff of the Bowling Green R-1 Schools.

Sincerely,

Dr. Matt Frederickson
